Bertha May Bean was born on 01 August 1883 to Samuel Waite Bean and his wife, Martha Jane “Mattie” Crosier, in Waiteville, Monroe, West Virginia.  She was their firstborn child.
Sam [1857-1913] married Mattie [1867-1945] 19 October 1882 in Monroe County. After Bertha’s death, the couple went on to have 7 more children: Annie Mina [1885-1941]; Grace Myrtle [1888-1944]; Leafie Metta [1890-1936]; Ardie Orville [1892-1977]; April Broaders Cecil [1895-1955]; Quincy Quito [1897-1986];  and Samuel Maxwell [1906-1993].
Bertha is buried at the New Zion Union Church Cemetery, Waiteville, Monroe, West Virginia.
