Amaneunsis Monday - Samuel's Bible

This past week I received a wonderful old copy that was taken from the fly cover of Reverend Samuel Parkins Bible.

Samuel was born 21 Apr 1778 to James Parkins [1741 – 1825] and his wife Elizabeth [1779 - 1832].

I was thrilled to see so many names and dates directly in the Bible!!!

This family record reads as follows:

“Samuel Parkin was born April 21 1778

Elizabeth Parkin was born November 8^th 1779

Caty Parkin was born August 13^th 1813

Joseph Parkins was born August 5^th 1813

Nancy Morgan Parkins was born December 6^th A.D. 1815

Elisabeth Parkins was born October the 16^th A.D. 1817

Ballard Smith Parkins was born January 25^th 1819

John Adams Parkins was born Sept 9^th  1819

Rachel Parkins was born A.D. 1823 March the 3^rd

Margaret S Perkins was born March 3^rd 1826

Catharine Parkins was born December 26^th A.D. 1826

Merion F Bruffy [sic] was born Sept 25^th [illegible]

Martha Jane Shepherd was born December 26^th 1861

Nancy E Shepherd was born Nov 15^th 1863

Annie Laurie Shepherd was born February 19^th 1866

Almirinda Shepherd was born Nov 18^th 1867”

While much of this provides another source for dates we have already proven elsewhere, it did give me a name I do not have in my files. That of “Merion F. Bruffy”. So, now I will need to locate this person!

I am thrilled, and thankful to have had this wonderful copy sent to me! [Thanks Earl!] And can’t wait to finish up other projects so that I have the time to delve into my Parkins family more deeply!

Reverend Samuel Parkins was my great-great-grandfather.
