The Virginia Historical Society is proud to be the 2011 location of the start and finish line of the Anthem Stride Through Time, a 6.2-mile walk centered around Richmond's rich history.
The third annual Anthem Stride Through Time set for Saturday, May 21 has moved its course to the historic Fan District. Participants will walk past numerous museums, historic sites and monuments, over cobblestone and brick.
The event starts at 8:30 a.m. just outside of the Virginia Historical Society front entrance on the Boulevard. The VHS front doors will be open beginning at 7:00 a.m. that morning, and we will be offering tours of the building before and after the walk. After completing the course, participants return to the VHS for the ThompsonMcMullan Finish Line Festival where there will be vendors, music, post-race food and drinks, and commemorative event t-shirts for all walkers.
Antique cars, historical figures, live music and authentic architecture will bring 400 years of history to life, all while participants enjoy a fantastic workout. Many sites along the route will be open for free during the walk. Sites along the 2011 course include: Virginia Historical Society, Science Museum of Virginia, John Kerr Branch House, Scuffle Town, Anderson Gallery, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Landmark Theater, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Stonewall Jackson School, Grove Avenue Fox Farm, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Confederate War Memorial Chapel, and more.
