SNGF - Come Sunday Morning

Randy Seaver, over at GeneaMusings brings us another great Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenge [which I did not get to until Sunday morning!].

Here's the challenge: "Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:

1) We're going to do a little bit of Semi-Random Research tonight...

2) Go to your family tree database of choice (you know, like RootsMagic, Reunion, Ancestry Member Tree), and determine who the very last person on your list of names is.

3) What do you know about this person based on your research? It's OK to do more if you need to - in fact, it's encouraged!

4) How are you related to this person, and why is s/he in your family tree?

5) Tell us about it in a blog post of your own, in a comment to this blogp post, or in a Facebook Status post or Google+ Stream post."

So I turned to my genealogy program [FTM 2010] and

[1-2] the last person in my database is Jane ZUMWALT. Now dear old Jane is actually my dh's gr-gr-gr-gr-grandmother.

[3] I know that Jane ZUMWALT was born 13 Mar 1806. Census records show that she was born in Tennessee. She married John BILLINGS [1803-1872] probably in the late 1830's. She was the mother of at least 3 children: Amanda Jane BILLINGS [1840-1916]; John BILLINGS; and Harriet BILLINGS. Jane died in 1873 in Gonzales County, Texas, where the family had lived for at least 25 years.

[4] I am related to Jane through my dear husband. Jane is his 4x great-grandmother.

Today we follow my dh’s step-father once more, with his mother’s line. The Harris family.

GENERATION TWO

2. Edwin Darl CUSTER son of William J. CUSTER and Essie G. HARRIS[1, 2] was born on 20 Jan 1933

in Dunlo, Cambria, Pennsylvania[1, 3, 4]. He died on 09 Apr 1974 in Universal City, Bexar, Texas[3].

3. Betty Louise Rotge daughter of John Cornelius ROTGE and Ora Lee Sparks[3, 5] was born on 30 Aug

1930 in Kerrville, Kerr, Texas[3, 6]. She died on 05 Jul 2003 in Jourdanton, Atascosa, Texas[3].

 

GENERATION 3

4. William J. CUSTER son of William J. CUSTER and Maxine wifeofWilliamCuster[3] was born in 1906 in

Pennsylvania[11, 12].

5. Essie G. HARRIS daughter of William H. Harris and Maude M. UNKNOWN[3] was born in 1913 in

Pennsylvania[3, 13, 14].

 

GENERATION 4

10. William H. Harris[24] was born in 1877 in Pennsylvania

11. Maude M. UNKNOWN[14] was born in 1881 in Pennsylvania

Family Recipe Friday....Pupusas

Now here’s a bit of a treat that I learned while living south of San Antonio. I make this quite often for myself as a treat. [I can eat these for a meal actually!] DH likes them as well. Think “stuffed tortilla” and you’ll get the idea!

Ingredients:

2 cups of corn masa harina

1 cup water

1 cup shredded cheese mix

(frying cheese, mozzarella, ricotta)

 

Cooking Instructions:

Mix corn masa harina and water

together in a mixing bowl until

smooth. Knead well. Cover bowl

and let dough rest for 10 minutes.

Shape dough into eight 2-inch

diameter balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each

back into 6-inch flat rounds. Each round should be

about 1/8th of an inch thick.

Sprinkle ¼ cup of cheese over each round. Place a second

round over the cheese and pinch the edges together to

seal the cheese in.

Heat in a slightly greased skillet over medium high heat.

Cook one round at a time, about 2 minutes on each side

or until lightly browned.

Notes: Can be stuffed with a combination of cheese, refried beans,

fried pork rind or chicken.
